This year marks 100 years since the extinction of the Passenger Pigeon. This bird, which declined from billions to zero in just a few decades, has become a symbol of what can happen to life on earth if we don’t manage our resources and/or our behaviors carefully. I recently worked together with fellow U-M SNRE staff and students to create this awesome mural commemorating the bird’s life and history. Making chalk art murals like this one is a great way to raise awareness of issues in urban areas – lots of people stopped to not only look at it, but to help color it and talk with us, as well!
