“Wonders of Bird Migration” (Life Magazine, 1959) – Artwork by Guy Tudor

Another thing I thought was cool! (Can you tell I am addicted to looking at old bird-related books and magazines on Google Books?!)

Here is a feature about birds in a vintage edition of Life Magazine. Featuring artwork by Guy Tudor, illustrator for the Field Guide to the Songbirds of South America.

About the artist:

Guy Tudor, a MacArthur Fellow and well-known bird artist and naturalist, was the principal illustrator of A Guide to the Birds of Venezuela and A Guide to the Birds of Colombia.

The link to this volume on Google Books is here.

Images are below*.

* NOTE: I did not save the high-res version of each picture, unfortunately… The way I saved it was the way it looked on my screen. D’OH! Until I get higher-res versions uploaded, you will have to go to the actual pages of the magazine to see the best versions of the pictures below. Sorry about that.

A spread about Southward migration:

Cool picture featuring night migrators, navigating by the stars (!!):
